Dental Examinations Sydney

Preventive dentistry is the heart of what we do.

While we are well equipped to deal with dental emergencies, the majority of what we do is aimed at catching issues long before they become emergencies, or not even letting them become issues in the first place. Preventive dentistry is the idea of taking small steps every day to maintain your oral health so that you won’t develop serious issues down the road. An important component of preventative dentistry is your six-monthly examination, as this is when we check to be sure that you’re not developing any problems with your teeth, gums or jaw. It’s also during this appointment that we give you a professional clean to remove plaque and tartar that cannot be removed simply with brushing and flossing.

When you visit Sydney General Dental, Dr Tinney will address any concerns you have with your teeth and mouth. No matter how long it’s been since your last dental visit, please don’t hesitate to come in. We are here to help and we won’t judge you or talk down to you, we will simply work with you to help you achieve optimal oral health.

Are you interested in dental treatment but still have questions?

Come in for an examination or consultation today and we will be happy to answer any questions you have to help you determine whether you need treatment and which treatment option is right for you. Here at Sydney General Dental it’s important to us to educate patients and to help them make informed decisions about their own oral health. If you want to know more about a particular treatment or to get advice from Dr Tinney, contact us today about coming in for an examination or consultation.

Preventive dentistry shouldn’t end when you leave the dental office. While your bi-annual visit and any resulting treatments are incredibly important for maintaining your oral health, without your commitment and effort at home it won’t make much difference. Brushing your teeth morning and night and flossing once a day is absolutely imperative. And so is maintaining a healthy diet. People tend to associate healthy eating with weight loss and a healthy body, but many people don’t consider the effects of diet on the mouth. Foods and drinks that are high in sugar are strongly linked to tooth decay. The bacteria in your mouth react with these sugars turning to acid which erodes tooth enamel which causes decay
